For You And Me by Popol Vuh

Now 28 years old, For You and Me was the 17th LP from Popol Vuh, the German legends who helped define a sound in the ‘70s and worked closely with the director Werner Herzog on many of his films. This LP is from their New Age and Ambient phase; with strong influences from traditional music from Ireland, Greece and the Himalayas. Out of print since 1991, One Way Static deliver a deluxe vinyl edition.

If you, like me, love prime 1970s Popol Vuh, especially the amazing soundtracks they produced for Werner Herzog, then this release may come as a disappointment. 'For You And Me' was originally released in 1991 and appears to be heavily influenced by, and incorporates strong elements of world music within it's remit. This becomes rather cloying and is so dominant it ruins the LP for me. There has always been a spiritual side to Popol Vuh's music, but it's just too much here. The LP is saved from disaster somewhat by the 4 part 'Om Mani Padme Hum' suite which harks back towards prime Popol Vuh. However I never really play this LP and would urge you to check out their earlier stuff and give this a wide berth if you are new to the group. For completists only.
