It’s the eighth studio album from the NYC noise rockers Unsane and they don’t seem to be letting off steam. Sterilize sees the band still as fiery and gnarly as they were back in 1988, with their mix of punk, noise, metal and hardcore punching through on this release on Southern Lord.

Not really sure how we missed this one. I’ll go ahead and say it: it’s foolhardiness on our part, considering headache rockers Unsane are fond favourites amongst the lovers of loud in our office. Going slow through the post-90s decades with records coming every five years or so, ‘Sterilize’ follows on from the old-school but quite dynamic ‘Wreck’, instead offering noise rock with merciless vision.
With nothing but hatred and forward momentum, ‘Sterilize’ rides by on its own severities -- it sounds like it’s getting exponentially more torrid, dissonant and splattered as it goes on, recalling the self-perpetuating sludgings that defined their early years. It’s essentially a great fit for anyone enamored with the harsher end of noise -- metallic and ear-bleeding, these riffers could be nothing other than themselves.
