Poly-ana is the debut LP from the critically acclaimed producer, Brainwaltzera. Gaining fans from the likes of Aphex Twin, Brainwaltzera’s Aescoba EP was an exploration of the possibilities of IDM, Ambient and Drone and this LP is no different. Shifting from heavy, clunky beats into shifting ambient synths is almost seamless for Brainwaltzera and makes for an album that is different with every listen.
Double vinyl LP or CD on FILM.
8/10 Clinton Staff review, 28 September 2017
"What's it like?" Phil asks. "Will it get a stonking review? I need to know, now". So I'm under some kind of pressure to tell you that this is good but we only have one reviewer available this week and that is miserable old me who likes nothing but the new Grizzly Bear album.
Thing is, I don't need to say a whole lot because this continues on from where Brainwaltzera's last LP finished off which is in the zone of a slightly more electro version of Boards of Canada. These pieces are slow moving odes to wires buzzing in the 1970s. Perfect synth heavy laments with simple plodding beats which sit underneath those exact sounds you get on Boards of Canada LPs and more recently the Concretism and Dalham records that have been so successful for us. It's rich and lush and full of carefully layered sounds including field recordings such as the rustle of leaves and water. I want to have this on a heavy pair of headphones whilst walking through the leaf drenched Yorkshire dales on my week off.
There's loads of music here too so this will last all winter. Go forth and buy before it's too late.
