El Ala De Mi Homunculo is the rather personal music of Aritomo, recorded and private pressed to express a deep love of Chilean music. This LP takes Aritomo’s influences and filters them through an experimental sensibility, with all the many instruments manned personally by Aritomo. Now issued by Hakanairo, in a specially-shaped sleeve!

8/10 Clinton Staff review, 24 August 2017
Every time I think of the Japanese artist Aritomo I think of the quite brilliant press release for his previous album La Flor De Mi Tulpa which contained the following phrase "I released my last LP in the beginning of 2011. Honestly, it was a failure. My 5th LP was not good music". Let's hope Arcade Fire are equally honest when they come to make the follow up to Everything Now.
It's hard though to say what is good and bad in Aritomo's world as what he produces is so unique. It sort of sounds like Jandek, early Animal Collective and the Boredoms all playing at the same time. Its random folk influenced compositions have things interjecting at unexpected moments, the music seemingly being played at random with no actual composition as such. But at times it falls into a pattern and becomes sort of beautiful full of watery guitar lines, busy flute lines and languid percussion. It's sort of traditional Japanese folk music mixed with Hawaiian and Tropicalia musics as conducted by Captain Beefheart.
I generally have no idea what is happening around me when I listen to it other that it is unique and the sleeve art is so gorgeous that it is worth the admission price alone.
