A ten track record from US based duo Balmorhea. The album is full of beautifully written pieces of music, mainly using the piano to its full advantage, and cleverly crafted soundscapes. Clear Language is available on limited white Vinyl LP with a poster, black Vinyl LP and CD, and is released on Western Vinyl.

There are definite similarities between Balmorhea and Memory Drawings. I can hear it in their blend of neo-classical and post rock, in the use of dulcimer and sweeping string parts but whereas Memory Drawings sound rustic and made of wood, Balmorhea are smooth and silky.

The reason I mention this comparison is that this is how someone introduced me to Balmorhea - a bit like Memory Drawings. I understand. Got it. 'Clear Language' is another very nice cinematic experience from the duo. They often start their songs with carefully pressed rhodes piano which slowly unfurls by way of murky atmospheres to the sort of compositions you might hear soundtracking a bleak nature documentary. Over the top of this come lovely flourishes of acoustic guitar, distant horns and strings.

Everything moves slowly in Balmorhea's world but I'm loathe to call their music 'boring' even if on the surface not a lot happens and the smooth production can remove some of the emotion from proceedings. Instead it's an album to let unfurl on days like these when the sun never rises and the rain dribbles out of the sky.
