This 2009 compilation does one thing, and it does it very well. It introduces listeners to some of Panama’s fantastic music, much of it virtually unknown elsewhere. With much of the material sourced from 45’s in radio station basements, Panama! 2 is the best way to hear these rich groovy blends of calypso, cumbia and Latin musics. Reissued by Soundway.

Most of the music on this reflects more of the indigenous culture and how it blended into the popular music. Indeed, main compiler Roberto Gyemant spent quite some time in Panama's Interior, searching for old vinyl records for this set. This is the kind of music a visitor to Panama would hear second hand - on the street, so to speak. It could be coming out of car radios passing by, or even in a taxi ride, or far away from the cities. I have to admit, for myself it's something of an acquired taste.
