Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats has built somewhat of a cult status over the years, and it all began with their 2010 debut 'Vol. 1', which originally made the rounds via CD-R. Until now, this recording has been highly sought-after by most fans, But thanks to their longtime label, Rise Above Records, fans can finally get an insight into the band's formative work in long-overdue remixed form. 'Vol. 1' contains the usual blend of 1960s psychedelic rock and 1970s hard rock/heavy metal, enlivened with creepy atmospheres reminiscent of now ancient classic horror films. Songs like "Crystal Spiders", "Dead Eyes of London" and "Do What Your Love Tells You" aren't so much metal as it is sleazy, stoned psychedelic rock almost akin to early Pentagram. Kevin Starrs (the leader of the band) has done an an exceptional job in touching up the base material and making sure that each song met the standard that he expected for the fans. While the sound may still have its imperfections, it is still a huge improvement compared to the original release, and it still holds up as a solid, original psychedelic rock album almost 8 years on.
