- Blessed Are The Sick by Morbid Angel
8/10 gbar 12th August 2017
What makes Blessed Are The Sick great? As usual, it’s variety. While I’m sure to most death metal fans, all there is to metal is playing such pure heaviness at such fast speeds, it’s much more impressive when a band expands their canvas and shows what they are truly capable of. You have your epics, such as The Ancient Ones; your fast-as-hell numbers like Day of Suffering, Thy Kingdom Come, and Unholy Blasphemies, and then you have your slow doom numbers such as the title track and Abominations. Before this album, death metal had, in all honestly, a slightly laughable cult following for those who wanted a little bit more rape and guts in your music and lyrics. After this album, Morbid Angel proved that death metal could be legitimized as an artform...whether its fans wanted it to be or not.
