Tim Mislock has created a world to make you feel like you are floating in a vast, organic space without boundaries. Mislock’s debut solo album, Now Is The Last Best Time, is an ambient record filled with guiding guitar. He has had to watch his stepdad experience dementia; the slow, inevitable deterioration brought about by Alzheimer’s has informed and shaped the record. He cites Eno, Eluvium and particularly Gavin Bryars as musical influences.

8/10 Staff review, 12 September 2017

Tim Mislock says of his debut fuzzy drone-fest, Now Is The Last Best Time; “I wanted to create a world that made the listener feel like they were floating.” On that count, he has succeeded. Mislock has had to observe as his step-father gradually deteriorated at the hands of the degenerative brain disease, Alzheimer’s. He has created a work that acknowledges the gravity of the illness while inducing a stillness.

The subtly shifting shapes and textures on the record are strongly suggestive of deep underwater currents way out in a seemingly boundless ocean. Guitars slither fluidly, soft vignettes after Brian Eno are pulled and stretched; moments of quiet -- where the guitar is looped and hanging on the slightest gossamer thread -- afford contemplation and evoke the twinkling of sunbeams reflected off the calm, gently lapping water’s surface.

It’s a record that speaks of deep respect, love and compassion; fittingly for such an emotive subject affecting so many people. It’s a thing of grand beauty, harking after the emotional soundscapes of Gavin Bryars and Stars of The Lid.
