Should probably give that new Nathan Fake album another listen then, huh. You barely blink and a remix 12” is out with the likes of Overmono, Norman favourite Huerco S and Olga Wojciechowska doing the transformational stuff, as well as a bonus tune from the Faker himself.
The opening one is Overmono’s rework of DEGREELESSNESS which had Prurient on too. It’s a stomping, upbeat one (being at A1 and all) that centres around a warping string synth and sparkling arps, underpinned by a real kick thud. Next is the bonus ‘Bosky’, which sees Nathan Fake doing his best Aphex Twin broken electro impression, lifting the track with some very nice soft, warm melodic pulses towards the end. Emotions.
Onto Huerco S, the one you’ve all been waiting for, and as you’d expect, he forgoes thudding beats for his rework of DEGREELESSNESS, instead angling a hovering cloud of bright ambience over a hand drum loop - all very new age, with some whispery sample chopping happening later. It’s okay. Much better is Olga Wojciechowska’s rework of HoursDaysMonthsSeasons, a nice neoclassical Nils Frahm-esque lilt on the piano that also brings the emotions.
