The Oscillation attempt the unthinkable by trying to compress their psychedelic onslaught onto that tiniest of 7" wax. Evil In The Tree features an eponymous track written in the same sessions as their Monographic LP, the band dedicating themselves to the same trance rock, building their way to pop repetitions through a filibuster of the usual: guitar warbles, shining keys and a knowing rhythm section.
7/10 Robin Staff review, 16 August 2017
Psychedelic busybodies The Oscillation drop a 7" our way, managing to compact their meandering peaks and troughs into a very short amount of time and thus earning our hard-won but mostly unwanted respect. For a band of filibuster jams, lovingly prepared for Monographic, this single of the same sessions offers the harder edge of their psych rock with less dilly-dallying, "Evil In a Tree" a snarling tune with a mind-meltingly repetitive chorus and a simple groove. The dutifully flipped "Paranormal Non-Activity" is where they offer their goods, putting out a drone that moves as rhythmically as a sprinkler jet spitting out water.
A long, sweltering and stagnant piece, it offers a devastating contrast to their guitar band stylings and makes me hopeful for the evil they have yet to deliver unto us.
