Martyn Jenkins needs no introduction but I'm going to do so anyway as we want to sell some of these. Ok so it's the Pye Corner Audio bloke. Hopefully that's shifted a few. Normally known for his hugely sought after nostalgic synth work, this is his first foray into techno. US import so it's very pricey but a must have for completists.

Here's the Pye Corner Audio lad stepping away from his usual nostalgic stuff to give us an EP of techno type sounds. He builds 'Dance Cave' up nicely with some burbling synths adding in bits and bats of percussion as if he's running along a path and things are sticking to him as he goes along. Midway through he adds in the sort of haunting synth line that softens techno for ponce-ears like me and from there the track breaks out with all manner of acidy ticks. It's techno as if written whilst perusing a 'how to' manual but don't take that as a criticism - it does all the things you need. Like it.
Next up there's a slab of low end which produces a darker hued result. Despite the more dangerous territory mined here it's never too harsh and remains soft on your ears. Jenkins obviously has great respect for the genre - the fact that these compositions have something of a playful innocence to them makes them endearing and avoids some of the lack of character that can sometimes occur with the genre. This is how I'd make techno - if I could - which I can't so don't worry.
