Michelle Zauner’s project Japanese Breakfast releases its second album, Soft Sounds From Another Planet. It’s a record of cool synth songs, drenched in a powerful melancholy expressed by Zauner’s pop vocals and dramatic spoken-word. She looks to the skies and up into space. LP release on Dead Oceans.

To call Japanese Breakfast's release, Soft Sounds from Another Planet, a sophomore effort discounts Michelle Zauner's full musical output to date and that's obvious in the quality of the composition here. The song "Boyish" appears here in its third iteration, burnished to perfection as a tale of a romance that just isn't lining up and contains my favourite line, right now - "I can't get you off my mind, I can't get you off in general". Songs range from the carefully arranged to the more punchy influence of her earlier band, Little Big League.
