Oh look, Bicep's releasing on Ninja Tune, how exciting! It would have been more exciting had they given us a press release but mystery will have to do. Expect some kind of jacking house business that'll be equally at home in the earbuds of a gym bro or pounding out of a Funktion One club system. Or at Scruff's tea tent. Or on your mantelpiece - there's an etching on the B side, you betcha.

Bicep. What an awful name for producers. The hyper-machismo imagery is made much worse by the fact that all their URLs are /feelmybicep, jeez. I’m sure it’s all tongue in cheek perhaps maybe, but I’m also sure that you’d have to know the guys to get that. Anyway, enough silly rants, they're much lauded and have this new 12” on Ninja Tune so let’s a-go.
Oh bloody hell it’s a single sided thing. It’s got 2 versions of the title track on the A side and some etching on the B side which I’m sure is nice but most people are gonna have that rubbing against their slipmats. Wait didn’t I say enough rants? OK so he’s making some sort of propulsive, spacey house between deep and tech house; it’s quite a nice tune, more celebratory than I thought it would be, a playful arp dancing with some bright strings.
The 12” mix is the same but a bit more DJ friendly, featuring a barebones kick to, um, kick things off and adding an extra minute and a half to the running time. Main criticism of the tune is that it stays perhaps a little bit too long on its main chord progression (possibly the whole 7 mins) and doesn’t give any variation or respite, but overall some great stuff.
