Hasta La Victoria by The Myrrors

Meandering psychlords the Myrrors release so many sleepytime groove records you'd think they actually never for one second stopped jamming. They follow up Entranced Earth with another outing of evergreen patience, moving slowly through five open-world songs of stretched out guitar-wahing goodness.

Hasta La Victoria by The Myrrors

One of Che Guevara’s well-known sayings was “¡Hasta la victoria siempre!” (“Until victory, always”), and here The Myrrors have developed their own, altered definition of “victory.” Repetitiveness and minimalism being the key, it almost feels like and sounds like a soundtrack from a long-lost Central American western, especially on tracks such as ‘Organ Mantra’ and ‘Somos La Resistencia’, and on these five tracks, not a moment of the album’s thirty-seven minutes ever feels anything short of natural, or even rushed. Unrefined, unrestrained and unforgettable, it’s not the word “victory” in the album’s title that should be the main emphasis here; maybe it’s the persistent, propulsive “until.”
