Peaceville are revisiting some of their most iconic records giving them limited edition picture disc releases. Here we have the second album by Paradise Lost from Halifax, England. Alongside My Dying Bride and Anathema they pushed the death/doom subgenres. Gothic is argued to be them at the top of their game and marked the birth of gothic doom.

Whether this album spawned the birth of gothic metal or not is a questionable topic, but Paradise Lost's sophomore effort 'Gothic' shows both a maturation as well as an improvement in their doom/death sound. Nick Holmes' solid vocal performance simply added to their morbid sound. Some of the standout tracks on Gothic include the title track, which is one of their finest tracks of all time, Gregor Mackintosh's finer lead guitar performances in "Rapture" and his crushing riffs along with Holmes' powerful vocals on "Eternal", the brilliant instrumental "Angel Tears" and the very fitting penultimate track "The Painless". In conclusion, Gothic is the essential album for any Paradise Lost fan and a must-hear for anyone who'll be interested in discovering this great band.
