The return of Fire records "Lost Library" series is a stormer with Jane Weaver singing atop Virginia Wing on a Suzanne Menzel song, Noveller tackling John Carpenter's 'The Thing' and Death and Vanilla re-imagine Bert Jansch's “Moonshine”. All showcase the female fronted bands on Fire's roster. So even better right?

This is a lovely looking 12". Single sided on clear vinyl with an etching, it's vinyl heaven (I love clear vinyl - not sure why). If you can drag yourself away from just looking at the lovely artifact and get round to playing it you will be well rewarded. Virginia Wing team up with Jane Weaver on vocals for opener 'Starts Again' and this is 4 minutes of sad sounding pop, and a cover version of a Suzanne Menzel lost pop classic according to the press release . A bit 80s with the synth use, but enough uplifting 'la la las' and bleeps to stop it being too miserable. Heavy bass riffs open track two, Noveller's 'The Thing'. Pretty ominous and gloomy with doom laden strings, this is really quite brilliant, and not what I was expecting from Noveller, who is normally much more upbeat than this, but of course it sounds heavy - it's a cover of John Carpenter's theme for 'The Thing', and damn fine it is too. Finally Death and Vanilla cover Bert Jansch's “Moonshine”, and this is just great. They do a great job of giving it that Death and Vanilla hauntology sound and it's a cracking finish to a really great ep. Bit pricey, but just look at that vinyl. Phowar!
