Whimsical lo-fi folk duo Candles release their self titled LP on the Weird Walk label, if psych tinged acid soaked folk music is your bag then get your paws all over this, think Syd Barrett solo mixed with modern dream-psych acts like Six Organs Of Admittance and Wooden Wand with just a sprinkle of 60's hippy mysticism.

Who would like to live in a wooden hut? (my hand is up). In prep for my yearly disappearance into the woods comes this slab of wooden folk straight outta Hampshire. These are unconventionally quirky yet lengthy pieces of stripped back folk music which have all the inconsistencies of Tyrannosaurus Rex era Marc Bolan but whose unconventional strumming patterns perhaps signify a lifetime listening to Jandek. Certainly the result on the A side is an album which strips back Wooden Wand's loose take on folk even further.
Therefore I'm warmed by B side opener 'Mountains Call' with some fireside harmonies and soft bass expanding the sound. There's some good moments here - 'Stone/Water' is the best and veers between discordance and lovingly crafted heart-wrenching weather beaten songwriting creating a great juxtaposition of sound. Quite a unique thing they have going on.
