Dan Caballero, as distinct from Don Caballero, is a techno man of old school proportions, being a member of ancient techno-activist organism Underground Resistance, and is here releasing a 12” under his solo Nomadico alias on his own Yaxteq label.
The Gentefication EP deals with something that will be very familiar to Leeds residents and those of one of the multitude of once-affordable London boroughs that have now been converted by real estate developers into playgrounds for the middle class plus. It’s a disease that is currently attempting to spread through our Mabgate, home to many venues, art studios, rehearsal rooms and charities, and this EP is a tribute to street-level efforts to keep it at bay.
The techno is pumping. Oh yes, this Detroit tinged stuff features thick, marching low end kicks and basses (the latter even getting acidic on A2 ‘Semillas’) that hypnotise you to a frenzied mind state that thrusts you straight into your nearest and dearest hot sweaty basement club. Bleeps abound, like the siren mimicking lead on B1, melding beautifully with the groaning bass. B2 finishes it up with some uptempo techno rolling with another touch of stabby acidic low end. Nice.
