With Divination, Ancestral Voices takes the beats that previously defined the project and throws them almost entirely in the bin, leaving us with mighty drone pieces, spread over six sides of vinyl. Divination’s pieces are embedded with different sorts of rhythms, and they trace out an epic soundworld. White vinyl 3LP set with runes on the sleeve, from Horo.

8/10 Ant Staff review, 11 May 2017

Liam Blackburn (Akkord) returns with his second album as Ancestral Voices - following 2015’s ‘Night Of Visions’ on Samurai Horo. Where that album was the aural equivalent to an Ayahuasca trip, ‘Divination’ goes even deeper along the road to enlightenment. Most of the beats have been left behind on that album in favour of a palette of dark metallic drones, chimes and deep low end. From beginning to end it’s pretty epic. I can almost imagine myself sat around a campfire in the darkness of the Amazon, surrounded by Shamans and the days of introspection afterwards, processing a mystical experience. The mood is pretty dark, but more mysterious than ominous. All that stuff aside, this is basically quality, heady ambient music with immaculate production and really warrants a spin in its entirety for maximum effect.

Looks pretty sweet to on triple white vinyl with spot varnished runes on the sleeve. Well worth checking if you dig the dark ambient works of Coil, Lustmord, Deathprod, Troum etc.
