- Enjoy The Great Outdoors by Spencer Radcliffe & Everyone Else
Remember when there was all those Chicago bands. You know the sort that would always have Doug Scharin on drums? I'm thinking of Rex and that lot. Well Spencer Radcliffe and Everyone Else have something of that sound in them. They play laid back country ish music which has a mathy edge. Tunes like 'Breezy' have the insouciance of mid era Pavement, the whole thing is seemingly hanging by a thread about to fall apart at any moment. You get laid back vocals, twinkly, intertwining guitars, random keys and a drummer stumbling off his chair. On 'Long Ton' (I think... I can't read the font), they start to resemble the Silver Jews circa 'American Water' all tumbling disjointed arrangements and vocals so tired they seem to be beneath the sheets.
There are vocals and wandering violins on 'Trust' which brings to mind the aforementioned Rex and Very Secretary and the album has the sort of laid back charm that only a flannel shirt can bring. Enjoyable though I do wish I could be as relaxed as these guys.
