Featuring an excellent video showing a motorway tearing up a local community I was sad that All We Are hadn't put the same kind of effort and originality into their music which is fairly standard indie grind with nods to kraut rock, punk and has something of the Kills. But nevermind Steve Lamacq will love it.

All We Are are your typical two thousand and teens Domino/related signing  - i.e fucking useless.

Their previous album was notable for sounding like the Wild Beasts but I don't even know what this is. They've given their sound a harder makeover and tracks like 'Human' are closer to the bluesy sludge of the Kills than anything else. The album generally seems to be the sound of a band in a desperate search for a direction. 'Animal' would be ok if it had appeared on the B side of an early A Flock of Seagulls single -  it's dark and moody with some nice percussion dragging it along, 'Dance' has some Bowie-ish squeaky guitars and pulsing electronics.

It's not the worst music ever made. It's just a band trying to do something with literally everything stacked against them. There's nothing here to actually commend it  - nothing I can pick out that's better or more original than anything else. It's just stuff and it goes on trying and failing to make an impression with not a note that is anywhere near good enough. Back to the drawing board.
