Simbiosi appeared, seemingly out of nowhere back in 2015 with the cracking ‘Elements’ triple 12” set on Actress Werkdiscs label, and then the Italian duo just seemed to have vanished. Now they make a welcome return on Repitch sister label Cosmo Rhythmatic with 5-track black label EP.

Things get moving with the unsettling intro ‘HRD90’ which has the kinda tension and threat of the theme from Jaws but in techno mode. It sets the scene perfectly for tough, jackin’ cut ‘Indastria’ which gets to work with brutal kickdrum that slams like an iron forge, and razor sharp metallic percussion that feels like it could slice the body clean in half. A sepulchral bassline adds a real doomy atmosphere while the percussion crunches and stomps along with some excellent fills that really tear and shred. ‘Eve’ is like wading through black gurgling waters while hallucinatory voices rise to the surface from beneath. There's a kinda black, futuristic sci-fi atmosphere that recalls the recent Lussuria and Alberich ‘Borgia’ record on Hospital Productions. The mechanical loops deployed on ‘Dixentra’ become disorienting and increasingly claustrophobic as they repeat. The clipped female vocal snippet is like an angel, almost suffocating, trapped inside a machine. ‘TEIWSJH’ is an adrenalin fueled game of Pong in hyperspace with beats like meteors, zinging, bouncing, ricocheting, exploding then quickly re-generating. It’s intense, chaotic and really sends the room spinning.
