The ever reliable Autopsy signed to Peaceville in 1988 and have stuck with them ever since for over 8 albums of crushing death metal, and still remain a genre defining act. To mark the 30th anniversary of the band and the Peaceville label, they have reissued their 1991 album Mental Funeral on limited picture disc. Brutal, guttural, timeless.

Mental Funeral by Autopsy

In 1991, a sound was beginning to take form. Death Metal was going through a developmental phase, yet somehow the brutality of the music levelled up year after year. But Autopsy walked a different path, adding sludgy doom elements to their death metal sound. At the time, nothing could compare with the sheer brutality of Mental Funeral. Songs like "Twisted Mass of Burnt Decay", "Slaughterday" and "Dead" are partially inspired by Black Sabbath and others that helped shape the doom genre, yet they all bring in a modern death metal element to them. The lyrics are all terrifying and nauseating as any good death metal album should be. It may not be for the faint of heart, but anyone who jams out to Sabbath every now and then will certainly be rewarded with Mental Funeral.
