FIIEII is the mini slice of collaborative wonderment from Japanese based artists Moshimoss & Stabilo. The piece as a whole is crammed with warm sounds and quality songwriting, whilst an otherworldly quality runs throughout. Comprised of four tracks, this release may be snappy but it lacks nothing where quality is concerned.

8/10 Jamie Staff review, 26 April 2017

So, Clint has just handed me my Wednesday treat, which arrives today as a brace of new releases from the Athens-based Sound In Silence label. As you may have expected, twinkling ambience is the order of the day on this first release, split between Moshimoss (Kosuke Anamizu) and Stabilo (Yasutica Horibe) who contribute two tracks apiece.

Moshimoss opens up the CD with some lovely piano on ‘FIIElI’; his gentle ivory tickling eking out pretty melodies which loop around each other with some distant creaking / footsteps / chatter of woodland creatures (or maybe children at play?) Either way, it’s tranquil and mesmeric stuff. His second track, ‘3pm’ uses electronics and processed fx-laden guitar to make a woozy wall of sound which quivers like a heat haze at the Lakes in July (I’m an optimist, me).

Stabilo haunts with his voice-like synths and field recordings of birds twittering by a river, walls of white noise gradually feeding in and building up to a breathless shimmer; that’s ‘Haust’. He takes a different tack on ‘Diablo’; altogether darker textures rumble away ominously amongst the faintest of breaths and taps until a droning figure of a melody resolves itself through the murk produced by many layers of electronic sound. And I must end my burbling here as I’ve actually made myself sleepy.
