‘Brix vehemently spits out her lyrics’ is how Brix Smith-Start the lead singer of Brix & The Extricated is described on this the first official new release entitled Damned For Eternity. Pretty much a supergroup of renowned ex the Fall musicians, this record is a great piece to listen to when you’re feeling a bit angry. Also one for those the Fall fans wanting something a bit less oblique than Mr Smith's ramblings.

7/10 Clinton Staff review, 10 May 2017

We all know that the best bit of the Fall was when Brix Smith provided shiny pop hooks for Mark E Smith to rant all over/ruin but similarly Brix needs Smith's oddball presence to lift her songs above the ordinary and into the realms of brilliant/mad.

Her new band Brix and the Extricated are perfectly serviceable and especially 'Damned For Eternity' showcase Brix's ability to conjure up a glammy riff and is catchy throughout providing a couple of minutes of guitar pop fun which will appeal to fans of 90s alt rock. B side 'Temporary Insanity' suggests that there might be longer term issues as despite the typical Brix-y opening twang riff it's decidedly ordinary  - lacking that bit of magic that is needed to rise above the mediocre.

It's ok though and so are Brix & the Extricated. I think there's a place for them but we'll see if a full length record sees them forge a career away from the ever stooped spectre of Mr Smith.
