Returning to Cardinal Fuzz for their second full length with the label, Horn Ur Marken from Swedish psych band The Janitors plays ever closer to the doom spectrum. Very heavily fuzzed out guitars become a psychedelic wash with the constant marching pace of the drums turning it into a slow grooved driving force.

- Horn Ur Marken by The Janitors
From the dirge rock of 10000 Russos we now arrive at a much more sinister breed of psych from The Janitors. Ever suspiciously eyed up the janitor when you were at school? This is the band they were in, and is also the reason that they scowled at little wastemen such as yourselves. All about riffwriting on the job.
These Swedes like it hairy and grainy, the guitars quickly becoming a shrill shriek, almost completely squashing the memory of what the drums sounded like. They’ve truly embraced the rough n ready recording style, but at least they abandon the dirge stomp format after the first track, the second being a cleaner slow Om-like stoner-doom meditation. Eventually, it builds to the distortion but still remains totally blazed. Also, isn’t that the artwork to Pelican’s City of Echoes?
I quite like the lolloping groove of this LP actually, instead of hitting you with an endless pummel as some recent psych does, it flops about lazily like a doom band that kinda can’t be arsed to commit. Which is much more fun, of course.
