Luke Vibert’s new record is titled UK Garave Vol. 1, and that ain’t a typo: this is all about the magical 90’s merging of the rave scene with UK Garage. Vibert has of course been immersed in wonky electronic music for years, so he’s the perfect person to be mixing up all the classic tropes and touches of this vintage period. Fun-time double LP on Hypercolour.

Vibert has always been a chap that fascinates me: as a teenager I find it mind-boggling that there is still a bloke churning out music that fulfils my mother's 1990's rave fantasies from when she was my age.
Despite my mother jumping on the table dancing whenever I put Luke Vibert on in front of my uber-trendy friends, the fact that I'm putting it on in front of my uber-trendy friends despite me knowing my mum's antics shows you how much I like this LP. It's so ridiculous that every time Luke puts out a new record he's essentially parodying himself. For example, there are several samples that are repeatedly used throughout the album on numerous tracks: surely he's not that lazy...?
My only problem with this is that it's too safe. It's nowhere near as edgy as something such as "Don't Fuck Around" from Vibert's previous album Bizarster, where simply reading that title makes you think: "oh shit, what have I got myself into..."
If you're aware of his work then this is definitely worth a listen to, however, when I want people to leave my house some of Vibert's earlier works will do the trick a lot quicker than this one.
