Steve Gibbs presents his debut album, although this may not be the first time you’ve heard his music. Gibbs’ more cinematic compositions have already appeared in film, TV and dance productions, and have been popular on Bandcamp. No surprise really, as his style mixes stately neo-classical piano and strings with subtle electro-acoustic tweakery. Adrift is released by Injazero.

Clint’s just handed me this, the debut album by composer and pianist Steve Gibbs. He’s previously made music (Steve that is, not Clint that I know of) to accompany television, film and dance, and listening to this CD I can see how it could provide additional emotional context to kitchen-sink dramas, his piano plinking mournfully and strings swelling majestically.
It’s all very dramatically wistful, as well as being wistfully dramatic. The weepy piano is now prompting me to think of contacting an old friend to apologise for that thing I promised I’d take care of but didn’t do a very good job. Thanks for that, Steve. Thanks. You may well find yourself imagining floating on a mirror-flat lake gazing at clouds, though. Swings and roundabouts.
