The New Pornographers are true Canadian stalwarts of indie rock, and they’ve now worked their way up to their seventh full-length album. Whiteout Conditions was borne out of a desire to be a bit more Krautrocky, but that impulse, translated by the Pornographers, ended up sounding like something somewhat different. CD / LP release on Caroline / Collected Works.

7/10 Jack Customer review, 13th February 2018
A fine album, but not the masterwork some people are making it out to be. The first three songs are among the best the NPs have put out (I could listen to Neko Case's beautiful voice on "Play Money" over and over--- and I have), but by the time you finish "High Ticket Attractions," you are drained by the sheer relentlessness of the propulsive upbeat music, even with the downbeat lyrics. I think this one is about as good an album as the last, Brill Bruisers, but obviously not on the same level as their first 3 classic albums.
