Post everything mayhem bringer Shit and Shine returns with Total Shit! Whether it is or not is a purely subjective thing in this case. With a library of sounds that Nurse With Wound would probably happily take a gander at, and an almost complete lack of conscience Shit and Shine are a rarity that on a single record can make you dance and get very scared.

7/10 Ant Staff review, 09 March 2017

Depraved lunacy is the order of the day on the latest Diagonal offering from the twisted mind of Craig Clause. Mashing up and looping the twang of Cramps style rock ‘n’ roll on opener ‘Hot Shovel’ through to the chewy, rubbery acid wrongness of ‘Chklt Shk, the driving electro of ‘Excess, Laziness, Egotism’ complete with comedy mangled low-res ‘What do you think is the unique thing Van Halen brings to rock ‘n’ roll’ / ‘Excess’ samples. Then there’s the warped disco funk sampling mayhem of ‘Long Island City’.

On the second side, the mashed up ‘Dodge Pot’ features Michael Jackson himself … and at this point my brain is about to implode. ‘I Hate This Fucking Machine’ sounds like he’s chucked his sampler off a roof, meanwhile ‘Have To Believe’ plunders and destroys some sort of power ballad. Skeletal drums back the malfunctioning electronics of ‘Fuck That’ before it descends into some death metal drum machine mutant. Finally ‘Stop Saying Awesome’ is a cacophony of overloaded, distorted thrashing.

It’s all very daft, deranged and pretty funny at times - but now that I’ve actually heard it, I’m not sure I ever need to revisit it. It is called ‘Total $hit!’ afterall. If you're after some wrongness in good olde V/Vm tradition, look no further.
