8/10 Ant Staff review, 22 February 2017

If my one remaining brain cell serves me correctly, I seem to recall that upon it’s release - back in 2010, that Expressway Yo-Yo Dieting’s ‘Bubblethug’ album on Weird Forest was unanimously considered by all staff at the time to be “pretty dope” or something i.e when someone would declare their fondness for it, they weren't in any way mocked by another staff member - it’s greatness collectively agreed upon. A rare thing.

Now some six and a half years later Pat Maher (Indignant Senility, Diamond Catalog etc.) returns under the alias with another peach - on this occasion for John Twells Type label.

Think your favourite MC’s and beatmakers being processed through a network of f/x to give a totally bugged out, druggy and freaky sound which pushes DJ Screw’s “Chopped & Screwed” methodology into more psychedelic realms. I’m reminded at times of some of the avant-hip-hop that came out of NYC on the whole Wordsound/ Spectre/ Illbient axis and also bits of other 90’s electronic hip-hop type gear like Chocolate Industries, Push Button Objects, Prefuse 73 etc. but with a much more contemporary/weirdo twist ala Lil Ugly Mane etc. but way more damaged and basically fucked sounding. Good shit!
