Halt And Catch Fire is a TV series that looks back knowingly (longingly?) at the early days of the Internet in the 1980’s, so it is highly appropriate that Paul Haslinger’s original soundtrack engages with the era in much the same way. Of course, dramatic synthscapes are no problem for Haslinger, as he used to be in Tangerine Dream...! Released by Fire Soundtracks.

Synths… lots of synths. Twinkling synths, pulsing synths, synths with arpeggiators and synths with drumbeats, preferably of the 4/4 variety. This is what you’ll need if you’re going to make a soundtrack to a television series about the early days of the Internet in the 1980s. Also, you might like to draft in Paul Haslinger. He was a member of Tangerine Dream (you may have heard of them) from 1986 to 1991, during which time he made many, many albums with the synth legends… and then left to pursue a highly successful / lucrative career in Hollywood making lots of highly polished synthesizer-based soundtracks for telly and cinema. This one -- Halt and Catch Fire -- sounds like the essence of the 80s’ newfound obsession with business and consumer electronics; IBM, Bill Gates and plenty o’ office shenanigans. Oh the Drama.

The soundtrack to "Halt And Catch Fire" is pretty good. As a long time listener of Tangerine Dream, I immediately fell for this excellent collection of music directly reminiscent of those terrific years where Paul Haslinger was with TD. A definite buy for any Tangerine Dream fan who likes music of that period. This is another pretty good soundtrack / score from Paul Haslinger. It is well-done, well-crafted and solidly entertaining. It's good kind of music to possibly try while doing your tai chi.
