Tidy wee 5-track LP on Joachim Nordwall’s reliable iDEAL Recordings, kicking off with Sweden’s noise-monger Dan Johansson appearing as Sewer Election with ‘Rutiner’ which is something like peeping into the crater of a volcano and watching the last globules of lava recede to reveal a scorched up Jandek practising underneath. Then we get a coupla tracks from Alexandra Atnif whom recently released a cassette on Kero’s Detroit Underground label. The rhythmic noise of first cut ‘Deeply Unhappy’ simmers with tension and blossoms into a fabulous, restrained, distorted, comatose techno number. ‘Last Strand of Reason’ builds with similar restraint before erupting into caustic noise mid-way where rumbling low end throbs and blasts of noise hit like sandblasted kick drums. Copley Medal aka Ryan Martin provides some excellent moody dark ambient/ foggy drone in the form of ‘Ger Lopig’. Sweden’s number one gloomy techno merchant Varg closes the record in fine style, sounding like F.U.S.E’s ‘Substance Abuse’ dragged through the fires of hell.
