Well, I’m so excited I’m almost fit to burst. Firstly, this happened yesterday: Phil ordered a new tape gun -- yes, a tape gun -- a deluxe model, no less, sturdy with a smooth action and a nice ergonomic grip. These things are important, believe me. And now this! A brand new release from Dutch trio made up of the Kleefstra brothers and Anne-Chris Bakker. Icy guitar soundscapes and spoken word, on a very limited cassette tape. Tape, you see. You see.
So brother Jan recites his cool sounding poetry (in a dialect / language I don’t understand) over other brother Romke’s even cooler electric guitar with Bakker also adding guitar and effects. The axe duo used bows, loops and electronic processing to produce these sorrowful sounds, however I believe no instruments were harmed in the making of this album. The results are starkly bleak and mesmerically beautiful. Like a fjord in winter, in fact. Probably. So, to recap then: sounds frozen in time. Which I like. If you're a Fennesz or Loscil fan you should like this too. I'm going to go home now and meditate.
