Our Versions Of Their Versions is the sound of Raime taking apart and rearranging their own music from over the years into a dancehall-styled mixtape, complete with contributions from some guest vocalists. It’s such a proper mixtape, it comes presented on an actual cassette tape. Edition of 400 on Reel Torque: please note that the tape plays the same on both sides.

8/10 Robin Staff review, 30 January 2017

Not much point in us warbling on about this given that it’s a limited edition cassette by beloved weird guys Raime, but a little slab of detail. This mixtape of sorts sees the London duo select ‘80s and ‘90s dancehall tunes that have influenced them and/or ruled their lives. There’s a tracklist, but it’s been pushed into alphabetical order on the blurb, so you’re effectively listening to Raime in the mix with contributions from vocalists Papa San, Sister P, Supercat, Supervisor and Terror Fabulous.

In other words: sure, you like Raime, but forget about Raime and their recent trajectory for a second -- let them introduce you to some artists they like. It’s a wonderfully crafted mix that simmers and sometimes goes all out on the rave, with the more downbeat, sparsely crafted tunes burying the party underfoot before releasing it proper. You might actually wear this tape out. If you get your hands on it, that is.
