Throbs of Discontent by Manni Dee

Ex-Brighton, currently in London, a string of releases on some of the most considered underground techno and bass music labels… Manni Dee has long been crafting his own place in UK techno. Alongside the particularly driving propulsion, his tracks, as on this new 12” EP on Perc, cause a storm with barely veiled political frustration.

Propulsive righteously angry techno driven along by speed-addled beats which pound into your cranium like another grossly idiotic Nigel Farage statement. Over this are indistinct voices flying through the track and being dubbed away into infinity. 'London Isn't England' (thank God) is no less than an utter banger. Dark, dingy and furious.

Overleaf the pace holds with the skittering beats and robotic voice repeats of 'Mephi' whilst 'Adorable Disorder' is beat less and full of disconcerting swells and a lovely descending bass line. So after the chaos and anger comes something calm and redemptive. Like the relief you feel after someone hits Piers Morgan hard in the face.
