Italo-synth throwback merchant Antoni Maiovvi’s ‘Interior’ and ‘Exterior’ are exemplary renderings of … well, throwback Italo-synth. As grandiose as the cover art, each track swells and ebbs with gorgeous arpeggios, skittering synth stabs and snappy melodies. Out on the ever-reliable InFact recordings, and with only 50 of these pressed you’d be wise to snap one up sooner rather than later.
8/10 Jamie Staff review, 27 February 2017
Synths… Huge, mountainous synths towering from central Europe circa 1983 and casting a long, long shadow to soundtrack the VHS films of your dreams. That’s what Antoni Maiovvi and his banks of analog gear are tickling you with here. Maiovvi is a master of the cinematic Italo-synth / Giallo / horror / neo-disco genres and doesn’t he want you to know it!
Presented in a pack of two one-sided ten-inchers, you get ‘Interior’ (parts 1 to 4) on the surface of the first clear disc of vinyl and ‘Exterior’ on the, um, other disc. The former is full of arpeggiated swells of synth which swirl melodically against ominous rumbles and splashes of drum. ‘Exterior’ is full of syncopated synth stabs and subtle under-currents of spiralling melody. This is one dreamy Carpenteresque package. Incredibly limited, too. I’d be quick.
