After a few years out the spotlight to live an honest life in Washington state, Courtney Marie Andrews returns with … Honest Life. A record in the finest heartland rock tradition, her kiss-off tales of love and loneliness take flight in a voice that hits a sweet spot between Joni Mitchell, Angel Olsen and Bonnie Tyler.

Americana, a much over-crowded field. Loose records seem to have a knack of releasing the very best of the bunch though, and much like the rather impressive Joana Serrat record 'Cross The Verge' they have put out another jewel in this new Courtney Marie Andrews record.
Opening track 'Rookie Dreaming' sets things up very nicely and invites you into a record that moves between that classic country sound and the more sparse ballads that come across as heartbreaking but not saccharine. There's a dark edge to a lot of the music contained here that recalls the grit found within the records of Richmond Fontaine, but there seems to be hope sprinkled throughout, and the overwhelming feeling is one of positivity. There are also moments that really recall Jason Molina's work as Magnolia Electric Co, especially on 'How Quickly Your Heart Mends' which makes great use of the obligatory pedal steel and accompanying piano. Truly lovely stuff.
