- Kiefermusik by Frank Dommert
8/10 Ant Staff review, 05 January 2017
Spencer Clark (Skaters, Black Joker, Fourth World Magazine, Monopoly Child Star Searchers, Typhonian Highlife etc.) has resurrected this deliciously far out obscurity for a new lease of life on his Pacific City Sound Visions label. Originally issued back in 1990 on Frank Dommert’s long defunct Entenpfuhl imprint, it’s a piece of work that transcends the sands of time. ‘Kiefermusik’ sounds so alien, that not only does it cease to belong to any specific era or genre, it seems to exist in its own unique little universe of WTF? A hallucinatory sonic LSD trip on wax that conjures dark visions of strange creatures seen in dream-like states of consciousness… something akin to the soundtrack of a Leonora Carrington painting. A treasure trove of acousmatic sound, strange tape loops, processed voices and lord knows what.
Surely one for the Nurse With Wound heads and fans of out there Fluxus, musique concrète and bizzaro avant-garde. Would be amazed if this wasn't a big influence on Spencer's own approach to sound. Look no further for your fix of weird.
