Over the years, Berlin techno institution Tresor’s compilations have been invaluable surveys of current developments in techno. Their latest ‘Dreamy Harbour’ is no different - a collection of tracks marking a quarter of a century of activity for the legendary label/club night.
Of course there are more artists making techno than ever, so this is merely a snapshot of the current international scene, but there’s some great tracks here from Donato Dozzy, Mønic aka Simon Shreeve, Claudia Anderson, and Marcelus.
Also included on the CD and DJ friendly triple vinyl edition are cuts from some of the older artists that have worked with the label for many years i.e Vainqueur, Juan Atkins & Moritz Von Oswald, Thomas Fehlmann, TV Victor, Terrence Dixon.
The icing on the cake is a coupla surprises - Gerald Donald (Drexciya / Dopplereffekt / Arpanet) premiers the first material from Daughter Produkt with ‘Direction Asymmetry’ - a blend of gorgeous glistening, glassy electronics and haunting female vocals which in my hiumble opinion makes this worth the asking price alone. Let’s hope there’s more in the pipeline from that project. Plus, possibly even more surprising is the appearance of Jon Hassell with the perfect post-club dreamy ambient heart melter ‘Timeless’.
There’s plenty of DJ tackle here, and for the non-disc jockey’s, the excellent sequencing of the tracks make for a most enjoyable album as a whole. Recommended.
