EIIII is an enigmatic producer, seemingly hailing from Ireland, who sort of makes techno but also sort of makes noise and drone music. Pleasingly, she is very good at whirling these worlds together into intoxicatingly thick blends that will draw you deep into the sound. Romance, her debut, is a four track EP released by Art for Blind Records.
8/10 Laurie Staff review, 02 February 2017
A musician named ELLLL (that’s four Ls) has been making a few waves in the techno scene lately, apparently being featured on mixes by Karen Gwyer and Truss. Big names. She’s also part of the ‘Gash Collective’, which is a different kind of ‘big name’, lol. This looks like her first release, perfectly timed after such successful endorsements.
It’s a pretty great stomp affair, featuring almost harpsichord-like samples being toyed with - melodically on the first track and abrasively off kilter on the second - all in a lurking 4x4 stomper context. There are a fair few scattered claps wheeling around here, and distant reverbed percussions echoing off into the void. As a whole, it’s not massively uptempo, closer to some more Detroit-leaning stuff than some crazy Chicago house. The second side includes some airy vocal textures pumping to the kick which is a nice touch, getting stuck in little loops like our pal Bill Murray. Over and out.
