This is an album of music by various artists, but you don’t get to know who those artists are. So why would you buy? Well, partly because there might be some notable names hiding away on Covert, partly because you could probably do with hearing something free of preconceptions, and partly because this release is a benefit for the very good cause of Macmillan Cancer Support. I don't know what to say. Phil describes this to me yesterday but he babbled on for far too long and I lost interest. What we seem to have here is a compilation of rather good electronica, the only issue being that the label won't or aren't allowed to tell us who is on it. It's all high quality stuff - the sort of thing that may have come out of the earlier Warp stable ranging from Squarepusher-eque wierdness (Faucon-Titane) to gloriously glacial melodic electronics in a Plaid style ('Charm') to AFX style acid bubblebaths and warm textural IDM - 'Doloxan' is particularly glorious bringing to mind the gorgeous sweep of Blue States or Boards of Canada.
A ruse or not (the production similarity suggests this could be the work of one person), this is a really good collection and as an added incentive to buy, all proceeds go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
