Despite Manu Dibango’s ‘Soul Makossa’ being a crucial record in the early days of disco and Michael Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Starting Something’ bringing the track's refrain to wider attention, not many of the Makossa genre’s wealth of gems have crossed the gap from Cameroon to the West. Oluko Imo’s 1979 Makossa cut here joins the slipstream of excellent contemporaneous sub-Saharan club cuts that have been reissued by Soundway, Soul Jazz Recs et al. Backed with a dub.
