The echospace [detroit] label have always been keen on exploring deep inner states, but Shibuya Hypnagogia goes further than most of their releases. A601-2 (that’s Rod Modell of DeepChord by the way) explicitly intends that this 61 minute piece will induce a slow descent from wakefulness to deep sleep in the listener. Knowing his track record, it probably will. CD in a retro matte digipak.

Unbelievably this is also Rod Modell of Deepchord. The man basically runs deep dub techno on his own these days under a series of monikers including . There are loads of these CDs out on echospace [detroit] and I can pretty much recommend everything I have heard so far. Particularly if you are hard of sleeping.
A601-2 is a moniker I'd not come across before so I thought I'd give it a whirl. Like all of this music it's deeply immersive and creates a kind of dreamlike state with the distant hum of heavy machinery colliding with disembodied voices. All I can compare it to would be falling asleep in a sleeping pod in industrial Tokyo whilst the sound of voices outside collide with the distant thrum of machines at work. Like the best of this music it has an ability to take you far away from the world you inhabit into a relaxing dream like state and after the year we've all had, a bit of escapism is no bad thing.
