We're Only In It For The Money by Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention

A brace of some of Frank Zappa’s many (many) albums are receiving heavyweight vinyl reissues from Universal. We’re Only In It For The Money is his third album with The Mothers Of Invention, and it’s got a wild blend of psych-rockin’, weirdo voice / tape experimentation, skitty bits, doo-wop and much more. Sounds pretty out there, even for 1968. 180g vinyl reissue.

When I came across a scratchy copy of We're Only in It for the Money, it was the first Zappa album I had heard. The anti-establishment lyrics were dated. Cops were no longer killing creeps ("Pow! Pow! Pow!") and the hippy movement was accepted to have been more of a fad than a movement exactly as Zappa had described it. On this album he had the guts to take on both the hypocritical establishment and the hypocritical anti-establishment, sometimes in the same song. He didn't care who he offended even if it was everyone.
