Weasels Ripped My Flesh by Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention

A brace of some of Frank Zappa’s many (many) albums are receiving heavyweight vinyl reissues from Universal. Weasels Ripped My Flesh is one of his best-loved albums with The Mothers Of Invention, being a frenzied blend-up of edited live recordings that refers to all sorts of experimental music modes in typically playful Zappa style. 180g vinyl reissue.

I think the title of this album is quite appropriate for the music in general, not only the final cut, which consists of about 2 minutes worth of pure "white noise". Weasels is full of abrupt transitions that almost rip you apart when listening. It isn't particularly cohesive in terms of sound and concept and not always so "listenable" - it's one of those records that you just have to be in the right mood to appreciate. "Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue", "Dwarf Nebula", "Orange County Lumber Truck" are all rather astonishing, innovative pieces of music, and each entirely different from the other.
