Willie Hutch signed to Motown in the ‘70s. After the legendary Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson, Motown was all about Willie Hutch. His nine album run for Berry Gordy’s label included two classic blaxploitation soundtracks: Foxy Brown and The Mack. However, before he signed to Motown he recorded two important albums for RCA. Soul Portrait was his debut and was originally released in 1969. Hutch wrote and arranged every track on the album which mixed the gritty, southern soul of Stax with the glittering sound of Detroit.
