Grant delivers a motherload of deep house heavy vibes: Cranks is a triple LP set from the LA producer. With that many inches of wax at his disposal, Grant can really stretch out and let the tracks breathe. Needless to say, the triple-LP-ness of this release will suit DJ’s especially well. Out on the Mörk label: their first full-length release.

I'm not sure exactly how many records on in here but I'm suspecting three. That's a lot of music. I'd like to sit here all afternoon listening to it but I can't as I'm really cold and in the famous words of Phil - I don't have the time. Therefore I'm just going to skip lightly through it.
Grant is a legendary LA DJ and producer who concocts a heavily atmospheric of West Coast laid back house music which has a faded, disintegrated feel as if the music has been played onto a corroded tape. The general vibe is similar to DJ Sprinkles with beautiful synth chords placed on top of relaxed beats. On opener snatches of dialogue are placed within the mix (a Sprinkles speciality) but it's on 'Bend' where for me the magic really starts to happen. This is deliciously spring-like - the sort of music that would sound mesmerising drifting from open windows on a balmy late spring evening.
The music is thick and gloopy with pumping four four kicks and fat bass lines, synths are lush and always evocative while vocal snatches are kept to a minimum and allowed to flow.
I've enjoyed every single track so far. I'd like to have this clasped to my headphones all day. Alas I have to go and do some physical, demanding work but maybe you can sit and spend an afternoon with this. It will be marvellous. Promise.
