One of the true legends of Jazz in the 20th century, Miles Davis delivers a ferocious and innovative jazz-rock performance at Filmore West, San Francisco. Recorded live in 1970, Black Beauty features Davis' blistering muted trumpets on the backdrop of a fine-tuned jazz ensemble. Released as Vinyl LP on the Music On Vinyl label.

This is one of a trio of Fillmore concert albums Miles Davis recorded in the space of two months in 1970. At this point he was developing what became known as fusion or jazz rock. I rank it below At The Fillmore, recorded later with Keith Jarrett adding a second set of keyboards to the group, and above Live at the Fillmore East, March 7, 1970: It's About That Time, the swan song of saxophonist Wayne Shorter. This seems more melodic and less frenzied than It's About That Time. The whole trio is worth checking, however.
